Unless noted, the following data is based upon observations collected by the National Weather Service, Chicago, at O'Hare International Airport (ORD) between November 1978 and last year. Observations have been official at O'Hare since Thursday, January 17, 1980.

According to the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), the normal high is 84 and the normal low is 64. The 29-year averages are 83 and 63.

On the hot side, in 1983 the high was the record high of 100 with a low of 78. In 1988 the high was 98 with a low of 70. In 1999 the high was 91 with a low of 72. The high was 93 two years ago. The high was 90 in 1985. Warm lows were 74 in 2002 and 71 (1990, 1995). The record warmest low of 84 was set in 1916. A very hot 98 degrees in 1988 was the last of the 90s until 11 years later in 1999 when it hit 91. 15 of the 29 highs so far have been 80s. There have been eight highs in the 70s as well.

On the cool side, in 1981 the high was the record coolest high of 66 with a low of 52. In 1984 the high was 75 with the record low of 51. In 2003 the high was 73 with a low of 56. In 2005 the high was 79 with a low of 53. In 1994 the high was 76 with a low of 56. Other 70s highs were 74 in 1989, 75 in 1996, 78 in 2001 and 79 in 1982. Another cool low was 55 in 2004. 23 of the 29 lows have been 50s (11) and 60s (12). Six lows have been 70s.

The following astronomical data is provided by the United States Naval Observatory. In Crystal Lake, twilight begins at 5:11 and sunrise is at 5:43.
Sunset is at 20:16 and twilight ends at 20:48. There's a total of 14 hours, 33 minutes of sunlight and 15 hours, 37 minutes between twilights. The moon is waning crescent with 23% visible at midnight and 18% visible at noon. Moonrise is at 1:05 and moonset is at 17:25. Moonlight time is 16 hours, 20 minutes today.
