to the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), the normal high is 82
and the normal low is 60. I've calculated the 33-year averages at 83
and 62.
On
the hot side, in 1988 (O'Hare's hottest June 21st) the high was the record high of 101 with a low
of 71 (O'Hare's co-warmest low of the date), a 30 degree spread. In 2002 the high was 88 with a low of 71 (O'Hare's other co-warmest low of the date). The record warmest low of 74 occurred back
in 1923, at a time when the official readings were taken adjacent to Lake Michigan. 21
of the past 33 highs (64%) were in the 80s. O'Hare recorded seven consecutive 80s highs from 1993 through 1999. Four highs (12%) were in
the hot: 90s (3) and 100s (1). O'Hare's only 90s highs of the date occurred from 1983 through 1991. Eight highs (24%) were in the cool: 60s
(3) and 70s (5).

looking back through the years to the first June at O'Hare in 1959,
the following instances were notable: In 1972 the high was a cool 68 with a low of 50, a cool day. In 1969 the high was 65 with a low of 46, a cool day. In 1967 the high was a cool 68 degrees.

high was 83 with a low of 53, a 30 degree spread. In 1961 the high was
75 with a cold low of 44, a 31 degree spread, a cool day. In 1960 the high was a cool 70 degrees.
More recently, the additional spreads were large: 33 degrees in 2003 (80/47), 30 degrees in 1986 (92/62) and 30 degrees in 1991 (93/63).
On

Before July 1, 1942, records were official at various locations in the city going all the way back to Mon. Oct. 16, 1871. Records before this (back to Sat. Oct. 15, 1870) were lost during the Great Chicago Fire which began on the evening of Sun. Oct. 8, 1871.
