Other warm highs were 63 in 2007, 60 in 1981, 57 in 1994 and 56 in 1988. 23 of the last 32 highs (72%) were in the: 30s (9), 40s (8) and 50s (6) . On the warmer side, five highs were in the: 60s (3), 70s (1) and 80s (1). On the cold side, four highs were in the 20s. Today is the mode date (or most frequent date) for our first high in the 60s based upon the past 32 years.
In looking back through the years to the first March at O'Hare in 1959, the following instances were notable: In 1977 the high was 69 with a low of 43, a warm day. In 1976 the high was a warm 60 degrees. In 1969 the low was a cold 11 degrees. In 1967 the high was 38 with a low of 33, a five degree spread. In 1966 the low was a warm 40 degrees. The highs are fairly evenly distributed. About half of them, 17 of the 32 or 53% were in the: 40s (5), 50s (8) and 60s (4). On the cold side, 15 of the 32 (47%) were in the: 20s (6) and 30s (9). Highs were in the 60s the past two years. Highs were in the 20s in 2002 and 2003, our most recent 20s highs.

On the warm side, in 1983 the high was 65 with a low of 30, a 35 degree spread. In 1992 the high was 58 with a low of 32. Three years ago, in 2008, the high was 57 with a low of 32. Four years before that, in 2004, the high was 48 with a low of 39. The record high of 71 was set in 1974 and the record warmest low of 44 occurred the prior year, in 1973. 21 of the last 32 highs (66%) were in the: 30s (11) and 40s (10). Our most recent 40s high was 48 in 2004. On the warmer side, four highs were in the 50s and one was a 60. On the cold side, six highs were in the 20s. Today is the median date for our first 60s high of the year based upon the last 32 years. A synonym for median is middle.
In looking back through the years to the first March at O'Hare in 1959, the following instances were notable: In 1978 the high was 25 with a low of 10, a cold day.
